Florence Cardell-Oliver was born in Stawell, Victoria in 1876. In 1949 she became the first woman in Australia to be appointed to a cabinet or ministry when she was made the Western ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓÆµ Minister for Health, Supply and Shipping. She died in 1965.
