Judith Troeth was born in Brighton, Victoria in 1940. She worked as a teacher before entering parliament as a Liberal Party senator in 1993. In 1997, she was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry making her the first female to hold such a role in the agriculture ministry. She retired from parliament in 2011. In 2012, Judith Troeth was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to the Parliament of Australia and to the community through her support for asylum seekers and the rights of women.
