Janet Powell was born in Nhill, Victoria in 1942. She was leader of the ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓÆµ Democrats in the federal parliament from 1990 to 1991, and resigned from the party in 1992. In 2006, she stood unsuccessfully as a candidate for the ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓÆµ Greens in the Victorian state election. Janet Powell was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2012 for service to the Parliament of Australia and to the community.
