Helen L'Orange was head of the Office of the Status of Women from 1988 to 1993. In 1994 she was made a Member of the Order of Australia for service to women and local government. In 1997, L'Orange became Chief Executive Officer of the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission, having previously been its general manager.
